In order to better organize and advance their fight for equal rights, African Americans formed several community organizations and institutions in Chicago. The Parkway Community House, located in the heart of the predominantly-African American South Side, was an institution dedicated to advancing racial progress and uplift in the city's African American communities. The institution held several community forums to discuss issues affecting African Americans in the city following World War II and helped to raise a collective consciousness necessary for the struggle for equal rghts.
