Description

After the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln, Secretary of War Edwin Stanton issued reward posters to aid in the capture of John Wilkes Booth and his accomplices. At the bottom of this broadside are descriptions of Booth, John H. Surratt and David E. Herold (listed as Daniel C. Harrold). Stanton warns anyone who would assist the assassins that they "shall be subject to trial before a Military Commission and the punishment of DEATH." The broadside was printed in New York.
