Title

The Berghoff bar in the 1950s

Subject

The Berghoff, in the center of the Chicago Loop, is a German-American brewery and restaurant that first opened its doors in 1898. After Prohibiton, the restaurant was issued Chicago's Liquor License No. 1, and has received it every year since. By 1939, there were three restaurants under one roof: the original bar, a two-room restaurant, and a more casual cafe called the Annex. The Berghoff closed briefly in 2007 but quickly reopened and is still owned and operated by the Berghoff family.
