As a testament to the power of Yippie theatrical protest and other groups’ political demonstrations, the Chicago political administration feared the dramatic revolution happening in its streets. Violent clashes throughout the convention among the police, the National Guard, and the protesters employed elements of performance: their protest against the establishment used violence to make an anti-establishment message. However, the drama escalated to include the journalists who covered the events, and they broadcast the chaos to the rest of the United States.
