The Goethe Monument was built in response to a competition held by the Goethe Association. Hermann Hahn of Munich, Germany won and his sculpture was installed at North Sheridan Road and Diversey Parkway, in Lincoln Park in 1913. In 1951 the sculpture was struck by lightning and was removed due to damage. In 1998 the sculpture was restored and returned to its original position.[1]
