At the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition, The Palmer House Hotel displayed its renowned brownie recipe. According to urban legend, the brownie was first invented by a pastry chef at Palmer House. The hotel, first established in 1871, was named after businessman Potter Palmer and remains in operation today.
