Guide to a Century of Progress

Along with hosting the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition, Chicago also held the 1933 Century of Progress. Celebrating technological innovation, exhibits at the fair showcased vertical parking garages, zeppelins, and model homes. Though the Great Depression was underway, it did not stop the fair's success--nearly 50 million visitors walked through the fairgrounds along Chicago's lakefront. The souvenir guide to the fair helped visitors navigate each exhibit and attraction, and it served as a keepsake for the universally recognized event.
